Kindness and Advocacy Story Building
Turn Social-Emotional Learning into an Unforgettable Adventure
Let's explore those tricky situations in a collaborative way and add a few other subjects in as we do so!
To start, your family can dive into a Kindness & Teamwork Sorting Activity. Together, you may explore real-world social scenarios—from cheering others on to navigating tricky disagreements—and sort them into gentle categories like "Helps Everyone Feel Good 💛" and "Needs a New Plan 🌱". It’s a low-pressure way to spark meaningful conversations about empathy, inclusion, and problem-solving.
Then, the creative adventure begins:
• Create Unique Characters: Brainstorm characters with rich personalities, complete with their own strengths, struggles, and interests.
• Build a World: Design a map and decide how the culture, weather, and geography will shape your story.
• Solve a Problem as a Team: Your characters will face a common goal and must work together to find a solution.
This is a flexible, low-demand framework perfect for homeschooling families, especially those with neurodivergent or PDA learners. It’s not just a lesson; it's a way to connect, create, and practice the essential life skill of self-advocacy in a safe and supportive way.
20+ pages of digital content. • Social Studies & Geography: The world-building section is a perfect opportunity to explore a real place. We chose to set our story in Tokyo, which led to a fascinating unit study on Japanese culture, geography, traditions, and climate—all while thinking about how the land and environment would shape our narrative. • Language Arts & Literacy: Character creation is a rich exercise in descriptive language and narrative development. Students will explore their character's strengths, struggles, and motivations. The collaborative story itself is excellent practice for oral literacy, plot construction, and synthesizing ideas into a coherent whole. • Critical Thinking & Art: Beyond the story, students can illustrate their characters or design a comic strip of their adventure. This is a wonderful way to explore different art mediums while visually representing the narrative they've built together
