Telling Time

While the future of telling time is clearly digital, reading an analog clock is still an important skill for kids to master.  I have created this fun 20 page mini unit to explore telling time.

Practically speaking, analog clocks can still be found in many places, but beyond that, there are other benefits like:

  • Mental Math: Reading an analog clock requires mental math skills, as you need to calculate the time by counting the hours, minutes, and seconds. Developing these skills can improve a child's overall math proficiency and problem-solving abilities.
  • Spatial Awareness: Analog clocks have a round face with numbers and hands that move in a circular motion. Reading an analog clock requires spatial awareness and visualizing the position of the hands on the clock face.
  • Historical Significance: Clocks have a long and rich history dating back to the invention of the first mechanical clocks in the 14th century. Being able to read an analog clock is a way to connect with this history and appreciate the evolution of technology.
